In 1942 Peter Bennie started a contract ploughing company. He invested in a wide range of machinery, which diversified his approach to the work, as most was done by hand. During the war Peter Bennie was tasked with building airfields for the Royal Air Force and at the end of the war he resumed his normal business. In 1960 his son-in-law, Roger Toseland, joined the company and in 1965 was given control of the company, as Peter Bennie retired. In 2006 Roger Toseland sadly passed away and now his daughter, Emma Ayres, runs the group.
The Bennie Group is a family run business which today comprises of six companies: Five trading companies and one holding company.
